Many would agree that Pierre Tostee has the ideal surfing lifestyle.
The former professional surfer, and now photo journalist, travels to
exotic beaches around the globe capturing images of the world's best
surfers in action on the Association of Surf Professionals (ASP) World
Tour.
Contracted as the official digital photographer for the ASP since 1999
he travels nine months of the year to world championship surfing events
in Australia, Tahiti, Fiji, California, South Africa, England, France,
Spain, Brazil, Japan and Hawaii.
At these events his digital images are distributed globally to mainstream
newspapers, magazines and websites through leading photo agencies: Reuters,
Agence, France Presse (AFP), Associated Press (AP), Australian Associated
Press (AAP), Getty Images, Corbis and Zuma.
Newspapers on every continent around the world publish Tostee’s
images. A quick search for ‘tostee’ on google will produce
thousands of links to Tostee’s dramatic surfing images.
Tostee also updates the ASP's popular website, www.aspworldtour.com
which can also be viewed on billabong.com,
quiksilver.com and ripcurl.com.
Tostee was the first surf photographer to turn 100% digital in early
1999. While established surf photographers chose to ‘stick with
shooting film’ in the early years of digital photography Tostee
embraced the future of imaging and forged ahead to dominate the surf
industry and mainstream media with his digital surfing images.
While on the road Pierre still writes a weekly surfing column for The
Daily News in Durban, South Africa, covering local and international
surfing news.
